CONTINUING EDUCATION
The notion of lifelong learning is based on the assumption that the wealth of knowledge, skills and competences learned during the initial training phase (school and university) is not, on its own, sufficient to carry out the work tasks in effective way.
Adult education is a fundamental component of lifelong learning. Italian legislation defines "continuing professional training" as "training activities aimed at adults, employed or unemployed, with particular reference to the activities in which the worker participates by autonomous choice, in order to adapt or raise their professional level, and to training initiatives promoted by companies in close connection with the technological and organizational innovation of the production process "(circular of the Ministry of Labor no. 174/96).
The definition includes both continuing training projects decided by individuals and those determined by organizations.
